Volvo polestar has announced new twin-turbocharged engines for their previous S60 and V60 models. Volvo polestar is looking forward to enhance the fuel efficiency and add to the charging capabilities of the batteries in turbo-charged engine models. For that, Volvo has swapped the previous six-cylinder 3.0-litre turbocharged engine of Volvo S60 and V60 with new V4 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine. For 2017, Volvo S60 and V60 will come standard with 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine that will not only improve the fuel-efficiency of these cars but will enhance their performance at the same time.
Specifications of New Volvo Twin-Turbo Engine
Compared to the old V6, the new Twin-turbo V4 delivers 27 more horsepower but reduces 23 pound-feet of torque. This decrease in torque does not affect the performance of these models as the run to 100 mph is completed in just 4.7 seconds that is about 3 seconds less than previous models. With the maximum speed of 250 mph, the new twin-turbo engine delivers the horsepower of 367hp and a torque of 346. An eight-speed automatic gearbox swaps the old six-speed auto transmission and is coupled with all-wheel drive system. Other specifications that enhance the performance of this engine include connecting rods, a better fuel pump, larger turbo and new camshafts. The exact figures of fuel efficiency are not yet available; however Volvo claims that the new S60 and V60 will have improved fuel efficiency.
S60 and V60 Become Lighter in Weight
Along with the new efficient engine, Volvo has worked on reducing the weight of Volvo S60 and V60. Comparatively, both these models are 44 lbs pounds lighter in weight than their outgoing version. In addition to that, the drivetrain of these new models are mounted in a way that keeps the car in perfect balance and makes driving subtle.
Modifications from Inside and Outside
When it comes to exterior, the new models of Volvo feature light-weighted alloy wheels of 20-inch, a new back and front spoiler and a diffuser. A new set of Brembo brakes is an additional external feature of new Volvo S60 and V60. From inside, these new models feature distinctive sports seats with Volvo’s signature Polestar prints with blue stitching. The blue stitching extends to the door panels, steering and carpets of these models. Another additional interior feature of new Volvo S60 and V60 includes a brushed up electro-assisted power steering. Both these models are almost similar in their technical specifications; however S60 looks more like a sedan whereas V60 possesses hybrid looks.
Expected Price and Release Date
With all these changes and modifications, Volvo is sure to improve the drivability and efficiency of their models. It is in the news that Volvo is increasing its annual production from 750 to 1500. These models are expected to hit the market by the end of this year. The price for Volvo S60 is expected to be around $35400 and the estimated price of V60 is $37300.
